Sound Particles
2012 - present Nuno Fonseca Research

Using particle systems in audio applications

Currently I'm doing research with particle systems in audio applications. Although particle systems are well know for their use on computer graphics, they are rare in audio applications. Personally I think that particle systems can be used for sound design, surround effects, granular synthesis, reverb design tool, IR editing and up-mixing. etc.

WordBuilder™
2002 - 2012 Nuno Fonseca EASTWEST

Singing Voice Synthesis

My collaboration with EASTWEST (Hollywood, USA) started in 2002, when Nick Phoenix (Two Steps from Hell) released "Voices of the Apocalypse", a sound library with choir samples. After a forum post and some emails, I began the development of "Voice of the Apocalypse" Utility, a simple text-to-sing tool (you write the text, play the melody, and hear the computer sing your text/melody).

Later, with the release of "EW/QL Symphonic Choirs", VotA Utility was transformed in WordBuilder™, the software tool inside the Symphonic Coirs package that allows text-to-sing. Since then, Symphonic Choirs and WordBuilder were reviewed in several magazines, received several awards, and are used by many composers around the work, especially on their works for movies, tv series and games.

Writing Books
2007 - present Nuno Fonseca books

"Introdução à Engenharia de Som", "Desenvolvimento em iOS", ...

First, a book about sound engineering ("Introdução à Engenharia de Som", FCA), currently at its 6th edition, with more than 4.000 copies. Then, a book about iOS development ("Desenvolvimento em iOS"), with a fantastic team (Catarina Reis, Catarina Silva, Luis Marcelino, Vitor Carreira), with a 3rd edition in less than a year.

iOS Development - Software Adventures
2011 - present Nuno Fonseca iOS

Developing iOS games and Apps

I believe that a teacher must know well what he teaches about. If I want to teach how to create iOS apps, I must know the all process. And to achieve that, I decided to create several apps for iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch. So, I created the "Software Adventures" label, and developed several apps:

State Names, the first and very simple app regarding the name of the 50 american states; Jane Austen - Fan Kit, an app for fans of the english writer; Family FInger Race, a family game. In the meanwhile, I end-up adopting a childrens book to iPad ("Menino Cristal", ImageWords).

ESTG - Extracurricular Activities
2010 - present Nuno Fonseca ESTG

Adding life to school...

I believe that a school is more than simple study activities. That's why I tend to create extracurricular activities: ESTG Cinema Group (2010/2011), ESTG-TV (2011/2012), International Summer School on iOS Game Development (2012, 2013), International Summer School on Audio Software Development (2014).
